Standard Bank
COMPLAINT

My daughter Jessica, a 'minor', has an account with Standard Bank; she was issued a 'MAESTRO' Debit card for use at ATMs and point-of-sale. As she will be travelling overseas during the Christmas school holidays, she would like to access her pocket-money through her bank account. Her branch advised her that she needs to 'unblock the card for overseas use' and so having been given the run-around today (not many of the staff do not know which department to call, AND your website does not give this information) we finally got through to the Department (0800-222-050, then press 2).

We spoke with Raquel who told me she should could not find details of my daughter's Maestro card on her system. I asked to speak her supervisor; he was too busy, a Mr Alvis Geagiso. Raquel then told me a Maestro Debit card does not need to be 'unblocked', as this card can always be used overseas - this bit of information came after 20 minutes on the phone! I asked Raquel to confirm this information to me by email, so that I would have an audit trail; Raquel told me she she does not have access to email! I suggested she send the email from Alvis, and I am still waiting. Who knows what the answer is?
