REFUSAL TO CHANGE SURNAME

I visited the local ABSA Bank situated in Da Gama Road, Jeffreys Bay, to change my surname, on my account I held there. I recently got divorced and decided to take back my maiden name. I presented the following to a consultant; divorce letter, previous ID, present ID issued by Home Affairs and my account number. I explained my request to her. She excused herself, taking the letter and the two Identity documents to the Manager. When she returned, I was informed that ABSA cannot help me for my maiden name does not appear on the divorce letter. The presented ID's clearly reflects the same ID number, were not enough proof. It was even suggested that there is doubt about the validity of my request. I instructed her to close my account, again to no avail, for the Barkley East Branch Manager was not authorised to do so. I had to pay in an amount as I was in overdraft, which I did, but at first the teller refused to accept the money, only on my insistence the amount was accepted. Not able to change my surname or closing my account I left ABSA feeling like a criminal. FNB, Jeffreys Bay had no problem with the change in name and processed it within a few minutes. ABSA please, resolve this matter NOW!
