Bank error and bullying tactics

FNB Forex department is witholding child support payment issued in New Zealand in October because of a cheque lost in June by FNB.

FNB Forex department sent a cheque to Australia instead of new Zealand for clearance and the cheque was lost. The first communication I received on the matter was a phone call at the end of October advising me that funds were being witheld until I obtained a replacement cheque.
FNB is now holding me as a single mother to be responsible for obtaining a duplicate cheque and are withholding funds until I rectify their mistake.

The response from FNB to my complaint is to say "the bank has been out of pocket for months, these things happen, and that I signed indemnity."

FNB obviously feels that it is ethically acceptable to withhold child support from single mothers and are holding me responsible for their error, rather than to accept liability for their own incompetence. Bullying a single parent into accepting long distance call costs to secure a replacement cheque would be appear to be FNB's idea of customer care.

This is the second time that the cheque has been sent to the wrong country - no map and no care at FNB Forex Joburg.
