I deposited a cheque on Friday 4th October for just over R100 000 into my cheque account. I asked for the cheque to be processed with special clearance. The person assisting me confirmed and told me about the small fee for processing the cheque special clearance and I was told it would be 3 - 5 working days. At the end of my dealings, I again confirmed with him that it was special clearance.

Today, Wednesday, I phoned the helpline to see why the cheque has not cleared. The person helping me said the cheque was not processed with special clearance. I asked him to assist me and all he could offer was the number for the branch where I deposited the cheque. I asked him if he could get them to call me and he said they can't. He then said I would be transferred through to someone else to assist me, which never happened, the call was ended.

The reason I needed the cheque special clearance was because I needed to put down a deposit on a vehicle I was looking to purchase, which I will probably now lose unless this matter needs is resolved before 12 tomorrow. If the matter is not resolved by then, I will be moving to another bank
