I opened a cheque account a STD Bank Northcliff on 26 Sept which finally became active on 30 Sept - and I was offered an overdraft of R27 000, and I opted to take R2000. I was told that to activate it I must deposit R3000 and this would activate the overdraft. I deposited R3200 on 30 September and the overdraft became available. I was able to use R800of the overdraft and nothing further. When I tried swiping and withdrawing it declined saying insufficient funds but there is still a balance of R1200. I called the call centre and was told that now my salary has to go in but I must go to the consultant thatadvised me of the R3000deposit that would activate the overdraft. I did that, he then called the call centre and was advised that my salary has to go in for 3 months before I have access to the overdraft. Why did then the system offer it to me if I cannot use it? Why is standard bank changing the rules as they go along? I am very dissappointed and upset about this as I am expecting to use services I was offered.
