My mother has a savings account with Absa (Cathedral) in Umtata and on the 20 April someone committed on her account and withdrew all her money (salary). I advised her to report the matter at Absa immediately but when she went to the branch and was given a run around until I intervened. I stay in JHB but I had to call them (Absa) and I was put on hold for several minutes without anyone assisting, first she was told to go to the police station to open a case, then was told that she must come on Monday (imagine this happened on Friday) to open a case with Absa for something that happened on Friday??? My mum is 63 years and the people there were giving her a straight answer. She had to walk up and down trying to get help then I contacted the head office that also referred me back to the branch (Umtata) but at the end of the day the case was open. She was told few days later they wont pay her money back cause they dont see it as and that she withdrew the money herself??? She has a daily limit so if how is it possible to withdrew all the cash?? Her card was swollen by the ATM when she was doing the first withdrawal then after that she got an sms saying money was withdraw
