This is the email I just received from Standard bank after requesting MY bank statement for 2012 tax year.
"Good day Mr Chatfield
Please be advised that the cost for the statements will be R2 380.00 for 119pages at R20.00 per page, please advise if I should debit you with this amount."
1) I have never received a statement which is longer than 5 pages so how is my statement suddenly 10 pages per month! Using bigger font so you can extract more money from your clients is complete thievery.
2) How on earth can it cost R 20 per page for someone to pull my statements and press "send" on a computer?
3) I am currently unemployed so cannot possibly afford to pay such a ludicrous amount, therefore I cannot do my tax return.
4) I have a recorded call with reference number 54477044 saying that my statements will be sent within 2 days at NO cost and then I receive this email today.
I would really appreciate if Standard Bank could justify the cost of R20 per page for an email Document? It is not like the documents are stored in some vault in a far far away land!
This just seems like another case of corporate bullying where us small clients just have to accept getting ripped off.
