AUTO & GENERAL DOES NOT PERFORM

The engine of the vehicle burnt out and Auto & General informed me that the vehicle will not be repaired but they will write it off. According to their records and policy schedule the car was insured according to market value. I phoned them and asked them why they do not put an amount in on the insurance form. They informed me that the reason is that the value of the vehicle depreciated every year and for that reason they only put in market value. I asked them then to please give me the market value of the vehicle in this year and the person confirmed that it is more than R80 000 which I accepted as it was in consensus with the insurance amount they gave me when a sales agent gave me a recorded quotation over the phone. The monthly premium amount for the vehicle was R731.95 and I accepted. Mrs. Pamela Smith handled my claim and I requested her to send to me a copy of an agreement of loss. With a shock I saw the amount Auto & General was going to pay out was R34 900 less access of R4050 and the amount due to me R30 850. (copy attached)
On the 1st of July I received an e-mail from Melissa with the message that your claim has been finalised and payment has already been made. I was
