Debit orde

I don't understand how standard bank system works, I went to Alexandra branch on Wednesday to ask them if they reverse a debit order and I was told it will take one or two working days for the debit order to be reversed. Today I went back to the branch and they said they can't reverse them due to they can't reverse the debit order. I'm stuck here why didn't someone call me and tell me. I'm highly dissapointed
