Standard Bank
Treachery & Betrayal

I got a qoute for my house bond cover in May from Standard bank insurance department. The cover premium was a little over R200.00, which was better than my current insurer then. I accepted the quote and had it scheduled to commence on the 1st of July 2013, but when the date came an amount of over R500.00 was debited from my account. On Monday the 1st of July I attempted to contact the insurance department to no avail and opted to live a message and my contact number at the message desk for someone to return my call. On the 5th of July I had to go to a standard bank branch in Rink Street, P.E to follow up and hopefully get a closure on the matter. After holding on for 35 minutes to get through, I spoke to a consultant who told me that the consultant had given me an inappropriate quote/amount while quoting me and it was decided that the R540 was the appropriate amount.
I asked her two questions, (a) Why is it that when Std bank realized they had made a mistake not make an effort of calling back and update me of the sudden change to avoid me canceling my existing cover? (b) Knowing they made a mistake why was the debit allowed to go on without my consent?
