Debit order deductions

I am very unhappy about the fact that we don't have any control over our accounts and debit orders any more. Yesterday my car payment went off for ABSA. I notice that I was R80 short when I got the SMS that the debit order went through. I immediately transferred R80 from another Standard bank account to this account. This morning my car payment was returned. I contacted Standard bank and they said the system already registered as insufficient funds. Now I have to pay R115 as well. So how are we supposed to manage our account if our banking is run by a system? I can understand if this was returned today, but the same day? You are supposed to keep your credit record in controle, but how do you manage it with such a system?
