Bank account frozen due to FICA expiration?

My ABSA account has been frozen due to apparent expiration of "FICA" requirements. However, I was not duly informed or warned at any point in time in this regard. Upon trying to do internet payments, unknown error codes were displayed without any explanation as to why the payment was unsuccessful. Following various attempts I reverted to the telephone banking service where I was informed that the error code could imply that there were some issues with regard to "FICA" and that my account has therefore been locked/frozen.
Besides this being a major inconvenience to go to the branch in order to resolve, it is a huge embarrassment since account details for a critical external role player could not be verified due to this unfortunate situation.
