I lost my job in April 2011 and informed ABSA Credit Card Division of the problem. Luckily I got a job a few months later, at a lesser wage but a job none the less. I agreed to pay an installment a few hundred rand less a month and obviously give up my credit card whilst paying back the debt of R34000.00. From that day I never received a statement from them again. I have paid two years of installments adding up to almost twenty thousand rands. I receive a SMS out of the blue today, threatening me with the sheriff and I phone to query it and get told that they made an error??? I then asked the woman (Emmie Lacante) what the balance was on the account and she informed me that it was R34000.00!!! So in two years the account has INCREASED by R4000.00!!! I have received the breakdown and there are interest amounts charged up to FIVE times a month and charges for contacting me which they NEVER do duplicated up to four times a month!! You are dishonest ABSA!!! I will now NOT pay one more cent on the account and intend taking this to court. I refuse to be ripped off by conscience-less - I will never be able to pay the account off! Disgustingly unfair!
