On the 25th of February I called ABSA Credit Card to try and close my account. I was advised of the closing balance and paid it on the same day. A couple of weeks later I received an SMS that a bank charges transaction has gone off the credit card. When I phoned in again, I was told that the account was never closed and that I would need to pay a new settlement amount! I was not impressed but just wanted to get the account closed so I immediately paid the account again.

This morning (28th March) I again received an SMS from this account. When I phoned in, I was told that the account was not closed and that the interest on the budget facility was outstanding. On investigation it was found that the money deposited was never used to closed the account. Again I was given a new settlement, this time for interest as a result of the BANK's mistake!

This type of thing is exactly why I am so glad to no longer be a "number" in the ABSA system. The service at my new bank (Standard Bank) has been exceptional and I look forward to a long relationship with them.
