Platinum misleading handset upgrade

I have exactly the same problem as vineshjn had on 22 January 2013 (see below). According to the Platinum package, one free handset upgrade per year is part of the Platinum benefits. However, when I upgraded my handset in March this year, the contract was extended with 24 months up to March 2015. When I queried this, I was informed that the handset upgrade means contract extension of 24 months as well. This is not my understanding of "handset upgrade" and is misleading advertising with no benefit to be a platinum customer.
