I have recently been receiving sms'ses stating that I am roughly R20, 000.00 overdue on an MTN account, and that I should immediately make a payment. I've never in my life even had an MTN account. I obviously thought it was merely a, but things changed once I received a call from a law firm claiming to represent MTN. The person stated that the overdue account has been handed over to them for immediate payment. Afterwards I phoned MTN to inform them of the, but they told me that an account had in fact been opened in my name, and that 2 separate numbers were linked to this account. I was then requested to send an affidavit and copy of my ID to MTN so that the matter can be investigated. I sent the required documents on 22/02/2013, and received read receipts on all my mails. It is now 07/03/2013 and I have not heard a thing from MTN, despite numerous attempts to contact them via email and telephone. When I ask for an update, I see that my mail is well received and read, but then nothing more. I have however received more phonecalls from the attorney claiming to represent MTN in the meantime. It's very frustrating to know that the matter is not being taken seriously by MTN.
