Vodacom - completely pathetic!

I have had a prepaid contact number (0724454555) with Vodacom since 2001 and switched it over to contract back in 2009. In 2011 on March 25 I upgraded my contact to a more expensive package for a Nokia N8 which cost me R388.50 a month for a 24 Months period.

In 2012 I lost my job and battled making payments on my vodacom account which lead to them deactivating and deleting my 0724454555 contact number from their system on april 2 2012.

On January 27 2013 I have paid vodacom in full and settled my contact with them. I ended up paying R9324 in total for the period of this contract.

Now that I contacted vodacom to get my number back I get told from everyone i speak to or emailed that they cant help me, because according to them that once a number gets deleted it gets thrown back into the cycle and then re-issued to someone else. But when i fone the number i hear a recording saying the number does not exist, which means no one has this number at all. Also when something gets deleted it can be restored, no matter what software or system it is running on. So why on earth can't my request be done when they can just simply load my number back onto their system and give it to me??
