Passing the buck

My husband ordered a phone 5s via mtn direct telephonically and requested to have his number ported. they Delivered the phone in december on 15th. Because i told him ill be paying the phone as a gift for xmas i wrapped it and put it under the xmas tree with the rest of the gifts. when he finally got to open his gift, the number wasnt ported and when we tried calling mtn to have this done we are transfered to different departments and told its not there fault and we must sort it out with mtn direct or the phone call just gets cut. We have been to a few stores (tygervalley, mitchells plain and mtn in century city for help and no1 can help) My husbands account was debited twice for the amount of the phone and he isnt even able to use the phone. We are at a point now where we dont want this phone and its so unfair that we are being charged for a service we arent getting. one of the store people sid they would have the phone picked up and cancel the contract but then that didnt happen. Then he was told that the number was going to be ported and they were going to credit him but that didnt happen either. can someone just advise us
