Cancelation of contract based on affordabilty

In my last employment, I had a sponsored cell contract. The company contributed 400 towards my line. Unfortunately the company went to a restructuring process and i had to find alternate employment. I am now sitting with a monthly bill of R700 which i cannot afford. i called vodacom to ask if i could downgrade the package to something cheaper and to downgrade will cost over R2000. to cancel will cost over R 7000. i even asked if i could pay up the handset amount as an option. I am very disappointed that i cannot downgrade to a cheaper package without further paying more money. thanks alot - i have been a loyal customer and never missed a debit on my account. thanks vodacom for caring about the well being of your customers.
