Bbm offline all the time!!!

I bought a new Blackberry q5 on contract just a week ago. Over the weekend I had a sim swop done so that I could keep my prepaid number. I had BIS on the old SIM card which was then transferred when the swop was done. I used it on Sunday and then on Monday I couldn't use bbm. Today again, bbm is not working. I get that I have to use data on the phone for the Internet, but why is bbm down the whole time!!!
If it doesn't get sorted out today, I will return the phone, as it is truly ridiculous.
