I received a call from a call centre agent regarding my Vodacom contract upgrade. If she stated she was from Elite Mobile she must have done so in such a way that I did not even hear it. She said she's calling with regards to my Vodacom upgrade (which i know I qualify for and is due to receive) and that she can do the upgrade over the phone. I was sceptical at first but when she then confirmed my details - the same details Vodacom has (like my Vodacom package and my address) I relaxed and "confirmed" the rest of my information. So I believed it was someone from Vodacom I spoke with.
Only after the call I received an e-mail with a quotation for my "order" at Elite Mobile for a new phone. I called Vodacom this morning and the consultant told me that Elite mobile is like Nasua or Autopage and he helped me to cancel Elite Mobile's quotation for my Vodacom contract to go through them.
How intentionally misleading can Elite Mobile be? Praying on people like this? Vodacom should warn people against these calls! I would also like to know WHERE and HOW did Elite Mobile get my personal information before phoning me? Is what they are doing even legal?
