New contract

I am currently with MTN and decided to move my contract to a Vodacom Talk 500 package. I phoned on the sales call centre on the 14th December to order a Iphone 5 on a Talk 500. I was approved and advised by Mpho to phone MTN and cancel my contract (30 days notice). She promised to phone me back in a couple of days. On the 3rd of January I realized that nobody had contacted me so I phoned again. I spoke to a consultant who told me that Mpho is on leave and my order hasn't been processed yet. He apologized and promised to handle it and phone me beginning of this week. Today I phoned again (10th January) and surprise surprise nothing has been done. I spoke to the sales manager who was very apologetic and will hopefully be more helpful than the previous people I spoke to BUT the reality is I have given notice with MTN on a sales consultants advise and may not have an active number in a few days time. Another thing that gripes me is I was told that they are out of Iphone stock and I am have been placed in the back of the line. Has the service levels dropped so much that I have to run after a company to spend close to a R1000 a month with them?
