Last week Nonhlanhla from Telkom Mobile called and I told her right from the beginning that I was not interested and that I had never given consent to Telkom to contact me for any kind of marketing. As per the Consumer Protection Act a company needs explicit consent from prospective customers in order to LEGALLY market to them.
Yesterday (26/11) a gentleman (Cheslin?) called me. I told him about my exchange with Nonhlanhla, he chuckled, said thanks and I made my goodbyes and hung up. A minute after that Cailin phones and jumps right in with her sales pitch - I just hung up.
So am I OBLIGED to hear out these people that call me on MY phone in MY time despite the fact that I had told them I would not like their product or to receive their marketing? They cannot produce a document/voice recording where I gave them permission to do marketing because none exists. Should I receive one more call from Telkom Mobile they will find themselves facing legal action for harassment.
