When is a cancellation not a cancellation?

My CC's 2 year data contract was due to end in April of this year. I had not made use of it for about 18 months because the modem and simcard had been, but that's immaterial. I went to the MTN outlet in I'langa Mall, Nelspruit on 15 April, completed and signed the contract cancellation form, which was counter-signed by a consultant, Mr Valesco Bredenkamp and also provided a letter on the company letterhead and a copy of my ID, as stipulated. In July, I noticed that the debit order for the contract was still going through. When I went back to inquire what was going on, I was told that there was a problem because the simcard had been black-listed because of the. When the debit order was still operating in September, I took the matter up with the MTN customer complaints dept. Several emails were exchanged with a Mr Harry Subrayal at [Email Removed] who maintains that nothing can be done as there was no reference number generated, despite the fact that I have provided him with copies of everything. I feel that this is outright, as I have cancelled the contract, I receive no service, and yet I am still being charged.
