Allowing subscriptions on a barred line

During Easter Weekend 2013 my modem and data sim were. I did not immediately realise this and only blocked the sim a few days later (in April 2013). However, by the time the line was blocked the has chased my account up to almost R7, 000.00 (an account for which I budgeted for R279.00). I only did a simswop early in July 2013, thus the line was barred for this entire time. However, three content-providing entities managed to subscribe my number to their lists (in May) and therefore I was billed (BY MTN) almost 5 times my normal subscription. Now MTN is telling me that the content providers should refund the monies that were charged to my account - already R2, 300.00 in total. MY CONTRACT IS WITH MTN, NO CONTENT SUBSCRIPTIONS SHOULD HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE ON A NON-ACTIVE ACCOUNT! WHY ON EARTH DID I HAVE TO BAR THE LINE IF ANY CAN SUBSCRIBE MY NUMBER FOR ALL KINDS OF USELESS???
