WARNING: CANCELLING A MTN CONTRACT

My MTN contract expired on 19 May 2013. I am currently residing in China and contacted MTN via their website on 02 June to notify them that I would like to cancel my contract and migrate to prepaid. I received an email reply on 3 June from MTN stating: "Kindly be advised that migration to prepaid forms have been received and sent to Retentions for attention". Since then, I received monthly billing dated 20 June and 20 July for which they debited my bank account. Meanwhile, I had emailed them again on 24 June and logged a complaint on Hellopeter on 23 July - and got an email reply from them on 24 July confirming once again: "Please be advised that cell phone number xxx has been migrated to MTN Prepaid. Please allow 2 to 24 hours for activation". There was no mention of a backdated refund so I emailed them back on 24 July to request the refund. MTN finally replied on 21 August: 'Please note that a request has been sent through to the billing department for a refund'. However, I have just had ANOTHER payment debited from my account today, and this time they did not send out any billing documents to support the debit. Let this be a warning to those considering signing a contract!!!
