Cancellation nightmare

I've been attempting to cancel my 8ta contract to move over to prepaid without success.
Here is a summary of events:
24 May -> went to 8ta shop with letter of cancellation
5 June -> I follow up with mail
5 June -> Got phone call from 8ta, stating cancellation would be 1st of July (got the recording)
15 June -> I added stop order to bank account for 8ta
1 July -> Contract NOT cancelled, contact them again
3 July -> 8ta asked me whether to cancel or move to prepaid (very rudely). My number got cancelled completely
4 July -> Phoned call center to re-enable my number on prepaid
13 July -> My number started working again (still contract, could not call or receive during this time)
15 July -> Phoned 8ta to ask about progress
17 July -> My number is suspended due to non payment, and will only be re-activated after moving to prepaid

I refuse to pay my contract subscription as a matter of principle as I've given notice of cancellation almost 2 months ago. I'm left with the choice to pay the subscription, wait till August without a phone, or change my number and deal with the related issues.

I would seriously advise anyone from entering into a contract with 8ta.
