WARNING: Roaming can Ruin you Financially

My wife received a cell phone bill from Vodacom for the amount of R90637.70 (Yes it's not an typing error!)
Ninety Thousand rand! R87000 was billed on one single day.
We went to Mauritius from 20 Des -29Des2012.We were very aware that phone calls are very expensive abroad. We specifically did not make any phone calls. We were not informed of the option of activating sms roaming only. Our intention was never to download data anyway!
We activated roaming to be able to communicate by sms and be able to receive urgent messages while out of the country. We later learned that out 10 jr old used her mother's cellphone to download a simple kid, s game from iTunes. This was a free download;and thus was not prompted by an Aple Id.
We now learned that data roaming get charged at a rate of R102/MB .According to Fabean from Vodacom an iPhone can download data at a rate od 1MB/sec. We got billed R88944 for 872MB.At this download speed it is possible to receive this bill within 14.5 min only!! Vodacom's Response to our enquiry: "It is the customer's responsibility to be aware that Cellular Data option must be switched off on your phone"I belief users should not be able to download data unles autherize
