I bought an MTN Blackberry 6360 through Foschini at Bayside Mall on 12 April 2013. Beginning of June 2013, the phone stopped charging. I took it to Foschini on 08 June 2013, who said they'll send it for repairs. I received a call from Foschini that the phone was back. When I went to Foschini, I was presented with a "Non Warranty Technical Assessment Report" which said "Physical Damage- Warranty Voided, Beyond Economical Repair... device be scrapped and disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner". There was a photo of the opened phone on the report. The sales lady at Foschini told me that if I still want the phone to be repaired, then it will cost me 75% of the cost of the phone. I was shocked to hear this as the phone had cost me R3, 000, repairing it would cost me R2, 250. I believe MTN were quick to say physical damage to avoid replacing or repairing the phone. I couldn't just dispose of a device worth R3, 000, within 2 months of purchase. I took the phone to another technician for second opinion and it has been repaired for a fraction of the R2, 250. When I called the repair centre, I did not get any joy. If another technician could fix the phone, why couldn't they?
