I'm based within 5km of one of MTN's largest distribution points, and have found that in our area the network coverage really is poor. There is a dead spot (read it's impossible to keep a phone call between Samrand and John Vorster Drive (N1N)); it's gotten so bad that I've grown into the habit of telling people that our phone call WILL BE dropped. Furthermore we only have Edge coverage here. This is in Midrand. Not somewhere desolate. Even more spectacularly, we tried having an aerial erected to improve the cellphone coverage in our office. MTN said they'll do it free of charge if we have enough users. Lo and behold we didn't have enough users. I'm really disappointed in MTN, and seriously regret signing another 24 month contract. Edge renders a smartphone useless. Don't even want to get in to the amount of times I've found my phone to have "No Service"...
