Upgrade without LTE compatible SIM card

I upgraded my phone two weeks ago to a Sony Xperia Z. One of the reasons I chose this phone was to use LTE with it. When the store assistant upgraded my contract she swoped me out with a 64k micro sim. Today when I finally wanted to enable LTE by phoning the call center they tell me I cannot use LTE on a 64k sim, it needs to be a 128k sim. How incompetent do you have to be not to know I need an LTE compatible sim to work with an LTE compatible phone. Now I have to pay R130 odd to have it swoped again!? You have to be joking!! It's rediculous!
