I have been a customer of Virgin Mobile SA since 2006, with active International Roaming since 2007. I have travelled to Australia, UK, several countries in Africa, never had an issue with the account, always paid by debit order. I called today to check international roaming still active for an upcoming trip to the UK. I am told system was changed in July 2012 and I need to reapply and they require a R10000 non refundable deposit before they will activate roaming, unused funds will be credited to the account, not refunded. I ask why, I am told this is because ALL customers run up huge bills while travelling and then have queries and do not want to pay for the service they receive. I asked why customers are not advised of this, the answer, information is readily available on the website, which I have gone through in detail and cannot see anything that's states a R10000 deposit is required, it does state, A DEPOSIT MAY BE REQUIRED, which differs significantly to what the consultant told me. I am astounded that Virgin has the audacity to imply that all people who use international roaming are fundamentally dishonest and will not honour their accounts. Virgin, you lost a customer.
