Took out new contract, &sim not working 76hrs late

I took out a new contract with Vodacom Shop on Saturday the 4th May 2013. Now its Tuesday evening (7th May 2013) and I have an emergency at home and am unable to use my phone to call a plumber as my phone tells me ":SIM card registration failed. I contacted the help desk via email and got a response asking for my ID number. Wow, after having been a contract customer for 2.5 years, the least I would expect is that you can track my details via my name and surname and though the CELL PHONE NUMBER. I am furious and disappointed with Vodacom. The salesman told me that it can take up to 48hrs to activate the new sim. its now been 76hrs. My business is standing still, I have an emergency, all while waiting for Vodacom to sort themselves out and assist me.
