Sim cards not getting activated

I upgraded my 3G data contract 3 weeks ago to a package that includes a tablet. I requested an additional sim card to be added to the same account to be used in the tablet, as I will continue to use the 3G modem as well.

I received the tablet with new sim card within two days. I called the online service to activate the new sim card. Beginning of disaster. Turns out that the person who activated the card made a mistake and did a sim swap instead, meaning the sim card in the 3G modem was not active anymore. I called in to get the problem fixed. Was told the only solution is to reverse the sim swap, and send me a new sim card for the tablet. Received the new sim card.

Since then I have made numerous calls, each time spending about half an hour on the phone, to get the new card activated. Today, finally after 3 weeks and many frustrating phone calls, both sim cards are working.

But low and behold: when I just switched on my daughter's tablet that I got a few days ago on a different contract, the sim card in her tablet is not active anymore! I got this tablet specifically so that my daughter can stay in contact with me when I go overseas for 3 weeks, leaving in two day's time...
