Sim card lost can, t do sim swop to get number back

2009 my wife got n new contract from Mtn, with this contract she got an additional sim card with R50-00 air time each month, if the air time runs out we just load pay as you go air time for our son. My son has being using this sim card for the last 4 years. The sim card was lost 2 weeks ago and we have being trying to do a sim swop since then to get our Credit on the sim card back and the same number back. All Mtn now want to do is make us sign a new contract. WE DO NOT WANT A NEW CONTRACT, WE WANT THE SAME NUMBER BACK AND STILL USE THE CREDIT LEFT ON THE PHONE! MTN CANT JUST LET ALL THAD CREDIT DISAPPEAR, IT IS OURS, I PAID FOR IT! ACCORDING TO ME THAT IS .
PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP ME SORT THIS MESS OUT, MY SON REALLY NEED HIS PHONE!
