Moving from vitality to multiply

I was previously a member of virgin active through bankmed vitality. Towards the end of last year I was advised that vitality will no longer be offered through bankmed and that I can change my gym membership to a multiply contract at no additional cost. It was basically impossible to get done by a slim deadline despite numerous calls to the gyms call centre no one took the liberty to call me back,
Then came the astronomical debit order. A call to virgin once more and advised that the amount will be debited in 5 to 9 days. That was beginning of January 2013.
To this date no refund and guess what, another debit order of the same amount.
How incompetent can a corporation of this magnitude be.
