I signed a contract with Planet Fitness in December 2012, which was for the duration of 3 years. However I was cautious to sign such a long contract as I was unsure about whether I the environment would be appropriate for me to exercise in for religious reasons, as well as the financial commitment. However the sales clerk assured me that I could cancel the contract at any time (without having to pay it out), as long as I wrote a letter to the manager stating my reasons. I queried this further and he assured that the new Consumer Protection Act would protect me from having to pay the contract out.
However when I emailed the branch manager last week to cancel the contract, he told me that I have to pay it out. I think it is disgusting to use the CPA, which very basis is to protect customers - to falsely lure people into signing long term contracts. I feel that Planet Fitness tricked me, and should based on their word release me from the contract.
