Kamaldien Jewellers
Sold as solid gold but its gold-plated 925silve

16 Mar 2013 bought cufflinks at "Kamaldien Jewellers" at Cape Town Waterfront. Was told they were solid 9ct yellow gold. The invoice and labelling also 9ct yellow gold. The same day I had them engraved with a name (were for a gift) - just shallow easy-to-brush-off engraving, not etching. At that time I noticed them a touch tarnished?? so took them to another Jeweller to be wiped with lint free cloth. This Jeweller showed me under magnifying glass, that the industry stamp signifying the type of metal was 925 which means they are actually stirling silver with gold plating to give the yellow colour. 9ct should be 375. I was unable to give them as gift and having paid a considerable sum of money for them, I was upset. The next day I tried returning them. The Jeweller who had sold them to me said she had assumed they were 9ct from her paperwork but agreed they had 925stamp and phoned Abdul the owner. He refused to give a refund until he had completed his own investigation as to where he had acquired them and what condition they were in. Irrelevant. Fact: they are stamped 925, fact: they were sold as 9ct solid yellow gold. Now police case CAS414/3/2013. Check for 375 if buying Kamaldien!
