I recently bought and paid for a persian carpet to the value of R70 000 from Ravats. After seeing the carpet in my home I realised that it did not suite my interior. When I phoned the next business day and explained the situation Ravats agreed to refund me the price minus sales tax ie R9 000. They said this was because they would have to pay it over to SARS. However, my understanding is that they can claim this amount back at the end of a tax year. They had no expense, except administrative, as the carpet was collected and delivered at their premises. I feel that them taking this amount is rather unfair.
