21 days waiting period for a kettle

"Consumer Watch: The CPA's Section 56, which covers the return of defective goods within six months of purchase, was designed to spare consumers such injustices by giving them the right to choose to be refunded, or get a replacement item, rather than having to accept a repair, which, as in this case, puts them at the mercy of a supplier who could take weeks to return the repaired item.
Yes, the supplier may have an item assessed to rule out user abuse, but may not unilaterally decide to repair the item during this period - not unless that is the customer's choice."

I bought an AEG kettle (R400) from this store on 12/06/2013. After a few weeks the lid didn't always open easily; it works well, then get stuck for no reason. It started to happen more frequently. This morning same story so I returned it to the store. (Off course the lid worked fine when the staff member at customer service opened it.)
When the staff member heard my complaint, I was told I will have to wait 21 days for a repair or replacement.
I'm not interested in a repair or a possible replacement thereafter. NO kettle for 3 weeks; anyway I don't trust this kettle's mechanism anymore... I took the kettle back home.
