BLACKBERRY SUPPLIER FAULT WHICH I HAVE TO PAY FOR

I purchased a blackberry 9720 as a Christmas present for my boyfriend... within a week a white line appeared on the side of the screen and then the whole screen went white and blurry on the left side... we handed it back to Game in Brooklyn on 14/01/2014 expecting them to fix it as it had to be a glitch on the blackberry.well today I got a call informing me that the quote to fix it will be R742.24... The reason for this was that they said we had dropped the phone, this is completely false as my boyfriend looked after the phone because it was new and made sure it wasn't dropped... What can I do about this as its of no fault from our side... his employees were standing next to him while he was on the phone and the whole left side on the screen went white... clearly the phone wasn't dropped and a manufacturer's fault is to blame... I cant afford to pay more for the phone and this is unacceptable as we didn't damage the phone, not even accidentally!!! I would have expected Game to make sure that products that they sell aren't faulty and if they are to fix it as stated in the warrenty!!!
