On 30 Nov 2013 just a bit after 16:15, I went to Shoprite Liquors in Soshanguve at the Falala Shopping Centre to make a purchase of alcoholic beverages. I have always considered carrying cash a risk and always pay with my Visa Gold Cheque card.
So when I wanted to pay for the beverages I had bought at the branch in question, the cashier asks for my ID and I ask him since when is one required to produce their ID document when making card purchases since I have previously made card purchases at the same branch and never had to produce an ID before. And he goes off to give me an attitude and says to me "Since Now! ".
Then he goes off to say that all Cheque Card Purchases require that the consumer produces an ID document in order to effect the purchase. I personally didn't appreciate his attitude.
I wish to highlight the fact I am using a Chip-embedded Gold Cheque Card from Fnb which requires validation by means of a pin. I'm also curios to know whether Shoprite has its own policies regarding card purchases, and if so, specifically which cards are we referring to? And how come there wasn't a notice on the paypoints in this regard?
