My lounge window had broken so I bought a new window pane from Glasfit Pmb. The next day I remembered my policy cover and called my insurer Alexander Forbes who pay the callout fee and one hour of labour for fitting a window. The insurer by chance called in Glasfit to do the job. Glasfit would not come unless I paid an excess fee as I had bought the glass already (albeit it from them the day before).
With my insurer picking up the cost of the callout and installation, surely there was no need to penalise me for having already bought the glass (from Glasfit!). Two weeks later, I sit with a broken window, a new pane of glass and the security risk that comes with it.
