I took an iPod Touch to IC in Fourways. I wanted to get a quote for repairs as the unit was not charging any more, even after I tried with different chargers.
The lady in the technical department said she will have to send it to the service centre for an assessment and then I will be quoted for any out of warranty repairs, which makes a 100% sense and I agreed.
Then she proceeds to tell me that I have to pay R450, 00 upfront as an assessment fee! This is against the consumer protection act! Suppliers are not permitted to charge consumers for drawing up any cost estimates/quotations.
I understand quote rejection fees, but those are only applicable after the consumer has actually received a quote. This is a outrageous business practise from IC! I took the device to an Apple iShop, and they didn't charge me a thing, so I guess IC takes that fee straight to their own pockets while they also send the devices to the same service centre.
Appalling!
