Yesterday, we had old notes & the cashier scanned them. When she saw that the notes were signed by Mboweni & not Markus, she called the manager Kyle. The notes were handed over, held them into the light & rudely told us that the money won't be accepted. We explained that we've drawn the money; response was 'I've heard this story before' insinuating that our money is counterfeit in front of everyone. There were no visible notices stating that we're not allowed to pay with old notes. We were so embarrassed & were forced to leave without our groceries. We purchased them at another Spar (Celtis Ridge) & they accepted our money without question; we believe that both SPARS have the same owner. We went back to chat to Kyle as we wanted to put closure to this unpleasant experience. Kyle stuck to his story, mentioned that an email was sent from Head Office stipulating this 'new rule' & gave us the mobile number of Craig. After many years of brand loyalty, especially at Sutherland Spar (15 years), the relationship has been tainted. I expect this to be addressed with the seriousness it deserves & that a suitable outcome is achieved. We look forward to hearing from management.
