I have just been told by the cashier at spar that they do not accept old R100 and R200 notes, the reason behind that is that they been getting fake notes and they are minimizing that. This does not make sense to me because the problem with fake notes has been occurring way before the new notes (madiba notes) were circulated. What if some comes with a "fake" new note will they accept it since its a "new" notes. My problem is that one still gets old notes when withdrawing money from ATMS, implying that circulation of old notes is still ongoing. As a spar customer I am disappointed by this since they don't have any measures to check the validity of the notes.
