Brand new Amazon Kindle - ink flowing

I have received a Kindle for Christmas (that was only bought in the first week of January. I am BIG on reading and have bought THREE books in the first week. However, the charger included in the box NEVER worked and - low and behold - the screen 'split' for no reason. IC in Witbank said it was as a result of physical damage. I am the ONLY person that handled the device, and it was safe and sound on my side table right next to my bed! NO sign of ANY damage - except the fact that the ink seems to have flowed in the screen and I can no longer use a brand new device. I do NOT appreciate the implication that I am a (by the manager - saying that there was a 'pressure point'), and will NOT rest until this issue is handled. Having something worth R2 500 (the purchase price) that is WORTHLESS, is NOT acceptable. Please take this opportunity to resolve my situation. My next course of action is the local and national news papers, the consumer commission and AMAZON.
