I had just bought a few thing at shoprite Protea gardens branch, and after I had paid and was leaving, the security guard at the door demanded a till slip from me. It turned out that the slip was not in my bags. I had either left it at the paypoint or dropped it. I showed the guard payment notification on my phone as proof of payment, I paid with a bank card. He proseeded to manhandle me and grab my bags when I tried to leave. I went to see the manager who said he was going to print a copy of the slip. I was left standing there for about half an hour, and not allowed to leave, and was only allowed to leave when a copy of the slip was printed and every item I bought checked.
I was treated like a criminal by these people, and humiliated even though I had proof that I paid for my groceries. The treatment we get from shoprite branches in the township is such that we are treated as criminals first and have to prove that we didn't anything. I will not be buying from shoprite anymore, and will encourage my family and friends to do the same.
