I moved out of the complex I was staying in on January 27, 2024. According to my electricity app with Protea Metering, I had 216 units left. I phoned them, and they instructed me to complete a form to close the account. I submitted the form along with a photo of the units. They indicated that the process would take about two weeks.
Later, when I called to follow up, a lady informed me that there appeared to be an outstanding balance from a few months back. I expressed my disbelief, pointing out that it was not possible since they deduct the amount the minute you load electricity.
Subsequently, I received a reply stating that because the system is prepaid, I am not entitled to a refund. I find this unacceptable. They overcharge people for electricity and then refuse to issue a refund for 216 units on Tariff B, which amounts to a considerable sum of money. I will not let this matter rest; I intend to contact the Rental Housing Tribunal.
