In anticipation of using the Gautrain next week to go to the airport, I went to Sandton Station this evening to top up my Gold Card so that I won't have a problem if there are long queues when I actually use the train.
I parked in the station parking area and went to top up my card. There was a queue at the ticket counter and it took me about 20 minutes to get back to my car.
On paying for my parking, I was horrified to find that my gold card was debited with R100 for 20 minutes!
I went back to the ticket office and was told that after 15 minutes there is a minimum charge of R100. I think this fact should be clearly advertised when one drives into the parking area.
I can understand that Gautrain wants to discourage non-travellers from using the parking but it's unfair to have a policy of charging penal rates and not advertising this at the point of entry.
